Chris Evans is making his way back to the MCU, as he’s set to return for Avengers: Doomsday. Deadline reports that Evans, who played Steve Rogers/Captain America in the MCU up through Avengers: Endgame, will return for the upcoming film directed by Joe and Anthony Russo/

The reports notes that Evans’ role is not “entirely clear.” Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson will be appearing as Captain America. As such, it is less likely that Evans will be playing Steve as Cap, but he could still be playing the character. It is worth noting that this is the film in which Robert Downey Jr. will be playing Dr. Doom (not Iron Man), so it is not out of the realm of possibility that Evans could be playing a different role.

Evans reprised his Fox-era Marvel role as Johnny Storm in Deadpool & Wolverine, but at least that iteration of character would seem to be an unlikely return as Johnny is appearing in Fantastic Four: First Steps as played by Joseph Quinn, and will be appearing in Doomsday alongside the rest of that film’s FF cast. (Also, Evans’ version of Johhny graphically died in Deadpool & Wolverine).

Avengers: Doomsday is set to release on May 1st, 2026.
