The Hollywood Reporter brings news that Disney has hired Charlie Bean (The Lego Ninjago Movie) to direct a live-action/CG combination remake of Lady and the Tramp. Brigham Taylor will produce the new adaptation, which will be made for Disney’s digital streaming service. That service will launch in 2019. It will include four to six new movies per year, as well as film and TV content from Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Lucasfilm.

The original animated film was released in 1955. It follows a rich Cocker Spaniel named Lady and a street dog named Tramp. Lady is kicked out onto the street after her owners have a baby and she’s shown the ropes by Tramp. Andrew Bujalski wrote the remake’s script. Jessica Virtue and Chaz Salembier will executive produce.
