In an interview with Men’s Journal, Ewan McGregor said that he knew he’d be returning to the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi for four years.

“It’s a fucking massive relief,” he said. “Because for four years, I’ve been having to lie to people about it.”

McGregor has been rumored to return to the role for years but always said he knew nothing about any plans for a return.

Now, McGregor is set to play Kenobi again for an all-new Disney+ series, which he says will consist of six hour-long episodes with production set to begin next summer, adding that the story will take place between Episode III and Episode IV.

“The storyline sits between Episode III and Episode IV,” he said. “It will be interesting to take a character we know in a way and show him—Well, his arc will be quite interesting, I think, dealing with that the fact that all the Jedi were slaughtered with the end of Episode III. It’s quite something to get over.”

McGregor noted that he will rewatch the prequel trilogy for the first time since it was released to prepare for the role, but that his time away from the Star Wars franchise will be a good thing.

“I want to get closer and closer to how Obi-Wan felt while Alec Guinness was playing him. I feel like I’m grayer and nearer him in age, so it’ll be easier to do that,” he said.
