F9: The Fast Saga

The Fast & Furious will be coming to an end at last, with two more films following the upcoming F9 to be produced. Deadline has confirmed that Universal Pictures is planning to wrap up the core film franchise with a 10th and 11th entry and that Justin Lin — currently in production on F9 — in talks to direct them both.

Details on the two new films are still under wraps because they are still coming together, but they are expected to conclude the storyline for the core ensemble cast of Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel and Sung Kang.

It’s important to note that the report specifically says that the “core” franchise is what will come to a close, and that there are still plans for spinoffs. There is already one of those in Hobbs & Shaw starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham, which currently has a sequel on the way. The Fast & Furious franchise has overcome unlikely odds after lackluster second and third entries to roar back and become Universal’s highest-grossing franchise of all time with $5.7 billion grossed worldwide.

F9 is set to release on May 28th, 2021. No word on release date plans for the final two films.
