The first Black Widow concept art was unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend, and it shows off Taskmaster as one of the enemies in the film. You can see the piece below courtesy of concept artist Andy Park, which shows Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanov squaring off with the Marvel Comics villain. His outfit is somewhat different than the comics version, but that’s to be expected considering the comics-accurate version is has a big white hooded cloak — rather impractical hand-to-hand fighting covert agent/mercenary — and a remarkably realistic skull mask.

Taskmaster is Tony Masters, a creation of David Michelinie and George Pérez who first appeared in 1980’s The Avengers #195. Taskmaster has “photographic reflexes” and can mimic any fighting maneuver or tactic he’s had a chance to observe, which has made him a deadly enemy to a host of Marvel heroes from Widow and Captain America to Spider-Man, Deadpool and many more. He has occasionally dipped toward the antihero side of the field, but more often than not is a villain and is sometimes employed by the likes of Hydra, A.I.M. and other terrorist organizations.

We don’t yet know who will play Taskmaster in the film, which stars Johansson, David Harbour (Alexi Shostakov/Red Guardian), Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), O-T Fagbenle (Rick Mason), and Rachel Weisz (Melina). The film is set to release on May 1st, 2020.
