First Prey Trailer & Poster Pits Young Comanche Warrior Against The Predator

The first trailer and poster for Prey is online, showing the first footage of Comanche warrior Naru going up against a Predator. 20th Century Studios has released the trailer for the upcoming film, which will bow on August 5th on Hulu and is set 300 years ago, centering on Naru who must figure out how to protect her people from the alien hunter.

In addition, producer Jhane Myers has confirmed in an interview with /Film that audiences will have the opportunity to watch the film in Comanche. Myers, who is Comanche, said, “That’s really important to me being Comanche and working with our Comanche language department, also with working with Comanche language speakers. But just the fact that people will have a choice, the world will have a choice to listen to the whole film in Comanche is amazing.” 

Director Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane) added that they struggled with “the Hunt For Red October thing,” where they would start in Comanche and then transition into English the way that film did with Russian and English. Instead, the film was shot in English and Comanche. Trachtenberg said, “Both languages are spoken, but when you hear English, it’s as if it’s Comanche. But what Jhane is speaking to is on Hulu, there will be a Comanche dub of the movie, so you can watch the entire movie in Comanche with the original actors returning to perform their roles.”

The film stars Amber Midthunder, Dakota Beavers, Dane DiLiegro, Stormee Kipp, Michelle Thrush, and Julian Black Antelope and is set to release on Hulu on August 5th. It is described as follows:

Set in the Comanche Nation 300 years ago, the film follows Naru, a fierce and highly skilled warrior, who has been raised in the shadow of some of the most legendary hunters who roam the Great Plains. So when danger threatens her camp, she sets out to protect her people. The prey she stalks, and ultimately confronts, turns out to be a highly evolved alien with a technologically advanced arsenal, resulting in a vicious and terrifying showdown between the two adversaries.
