New Line has released the first teaser for director Lee Cronin‘s The Mummy, which puts a new spin on the classic horror monster. Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line released the trailer on Monday morning for the film, and you can check it out below.
The trailer is light on plot details but teases plenty of mood. We see a sarcophagus opening with a mummy inside, and quick flashes of a camera as the wraps are carefully pulled away from the body. There are images of bloody scorpions and horrifying images, a video tape labeled “Katie” and a photo of star Jack Reynor’s character with Katie (Natalia Grace). The trailer then asks “What Happened To Katie?” before we see the mummy is Katie who opens her eyes after something crawls from her mouth.
The Mummy – which is not the same as the upcoming Universal continuation of the Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz franchise — was written and directed by Cronin (Evil Dead Rise). It stars Reynor, Laia Costa, May Calamawy, Natalie Grace, and Veronica Falcón and hits theaters on April 17th.
The synopsis reads:
The young daughter of a journalist disappears into the desert without a trace—eight years later, the broken family is shocked when she is returned to them, as what should be a joyful reunion turns into a living nightmare.
