HBO Had a Pithy Comment About Game of Thrones’ Coffee Cup Gaffe

Last night’s Game of Thrones had many shocking moments, but perhaps the most shocking of all was that Westeros has Starbucks. During Sunday’s episode, a production gaffe made it to air that many of the show’s eagle-eyed viewers picked up on: what looks like a Starbucks-style coffee cup sitting near Daenerys during the feast scene.

Fans quickly glommed onto this little error, a rarity for a show that has done its best to make the gritty fantasy setting feel real. Almost better than the actual error (and the fans joking about it online) was HBO’s response, which reveals that the Mother of Dragons prefers something more relaxing than a venti quad mocha.

HBO’s statement read:

In response to inquiries from those who saw a craft services coffee cup in Sunday night’s episode of GAME OF THRONES, HBO states, “The latte that appeared in the episode was a mistake. Daenerys had ordered an herbal tea.”

Game of Thrones returns for its penultimate episode this coming Sunday at 9 PM ET/PT.
