Supernatural is set to air its final season starting next fall, but star Jensen Ackles says that the show may not be gone for good. Ackles said at The CW’s TCA summer press tour (per TV Line) that he doesn’t see himself ever setting the role of Dean Winchesters down forever.

“It’s a long journey that I don’t think is ever going to be over,” Ackles said of the show, which will conclude its fifteen-season run in the spring. “I think we’re just going to go away for a while. For how long, I don’t know.”

He later clarified, “I’m not ever ready to close doors or burn bridges. I think that’s foolish. Am I saying there’s something in the works? No. Am I open to having a conversation in the future? What’s the harm in that?”

The long-running show has always been a consistent ratings performer, and The CW has always said that the show would keep going as long as the cast and showrunners had good stories and passion for it. Its final season kicks off on October 10th.
