JJ Abrams says that there will be more revealed about Rey’s parentage in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. The director spoke with ABC News about the trailer that launched last week. In it he acknowledged that they will be touching on Rey’s parents, a controversial point for fans after Kylo Ren told Rey in The Last Jedi that her parents were no one special.

Discussing the subject of Rey’s parents, Abrams said, “We knew going into this that this movie had to be a satisfying conclusion, and we’re well aware that that’s one of the things that’s sort of been out there. I don’t want to say that what happens in Episode VIII — you know, we’ve honored that. But I will say there’s more to the story than you’ve seen.”

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker releases on December 20th.
