Lionsgate Moving Ahead With Highlander Reboot Starring Henry Cavill
Henry Cavill will have his chance to cut some heads off for the sake of The Game, with Lionsgate moving ahead on a Highlander reboot. Cavill has been attached the long-in-gestation reboot of the cult classic franchise since 2021, and Deadline reports that Lionsgate is launching sales for the film at the American Film Market that starts next week in Santa Monica, California.
Chad Stahelski (John Wick) is set to direct the reboot of the 1986 original, which Lionsgate is setting at a budget above $100 million, with a start date eyes for next year. It will have a lot of prospective eyes, as the Hollywood strikes have led to a diminished slate this year.
Mike Finch, who wrote John Wick: Chapter 4, wrote the most recent draft for the film. The original film starred Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery and Clancy Brown and kickstarted a franchise about the Immortals, who hunt each other in duels over immortal energy known as The Quickening. The film became a cult success and spawned a media franchise including four sequels, three TV series, an animated film, comics, video games and more.
