The Spaceballs are back — or will be — with Mel Brooks and Josh Gad developing a sequel to the 1987 spoof. THR reports that Gad and Brooks are producing a sequel to Brooks’ Star Wars parody at Amazon MGM, with Gad attached to star.

The film is described as being in early development with a script from Gad, Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez. Josh Greenbaum is set to direct the film, with the plot details being kept under wraps.

The original film took direct aim at the Star Wars franchise and starred Bill Pullman, John Candy, Rick Moranis, Daphne Zuniga, and Joan Rivers. Pullman played Lone Star, a Han Solo/Luke Skywalker riff who was hired to rescue the Druish Princess Vespa (Zuniga) from the evil Spaceballs, led by President Skroob (Brooks) and Dark Helmet (Moranis). While the film was not a massive box office success, it found life after its theatrical run and is a comedy favorite of the era.

No word as of yet on whether the sequel will follow the original film’s joke and be titled Spaceballs 2: The Search For More Money.
