Netflix Orders That 70’s Show Spinoff That 90’s Show, Kurtwood Smith and Debra Jo Rupp To Return
It’s time to put a boot in someone’s backside once again. The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Netflix has ordered ten episodes for a That 70’s Show spinoff series called That 90s Show. The series will feature the return of Kurtwood Smith and Debra Jo Rupp as Red and Kitty Foreman, as well as original series creators Bonnie and Terry Turner.
Here’s a synopsis: Hello, Wisconsin! It’s 1995 and Leia Forman, daughter of Eric and Donna, is visiting her grandparents for the summer where she bonds with a new generation of Point Place kids under the watchful eye of Kitty and the stern glare of Red. Sex, drugs and rock ’n roll never dies, it just changes clothes.
The original series debuted in 1998 and ran for eight seasons on FOX. It followed a group of friends (played by Topher Grace, Mila Kunis, Ashton Kutcher, Laura Prepon, Danny Masterson and Wilmer Valderrama) as they grew up during the titular decade in Point Place, Wisconsin. While Smith and Rupp are the only original cast members back so far, producers are hopeful to get others back in guest appearances. Masterson is very unlikely to return, as he is currently set to stand trial in Los Angeles for three rape charges.
FOX previously attempted a series called That 80s Show in 2002, but all it really shared with the original was being “inspired” by it. It didn’t last long.
