Where would the Scream series be without its final girl? It’s official. Neve Campbell will be back in the role of Sidney Prescott for the planned fifth installment of the Scream film series. Courtney Cox and David Arquette were previously announced to return in their respective roles of Gale Weathers and Dewey Riley. Now, Campbell is back to the complete the trio who have appeared in all the previous cinematic outings.

Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media Group announced that Campbell is returning for the film alongside her fellow legacy cast members Arquette and Cox. New cast members for the sequel include The Boys star Jack Quaid, Melissa Barrera, and Jenna Ortega. Production on the film will be held in Wilmington, North Carolina. The film is slated for release in January 2022. More Casting updates will be coming soon.

The filmmaking group Radio Silence commented, “We’re pinching ourselves! It’s hard to express how much the character Sidney Prescott shaped our love of movies and to have the chance to work with Neve is truly a dream come true. It just wouldn’t be a ‘Scream’ movie without Neve and we’re so excited and honored to join her in Woodsboro.”

Neve Campbell herself added, “After spending time speaking with Radio Silence, they have shown such love, respect and admiration for Wes Craven and all that he’s created in the ‘Scream’ franchise. I am beyond excited to step back into the role of Sidney Prescott and return to Woodsboro.”

The currently untitled Scream film franchise relaunch is directed by Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett from a script by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick. Creator and longtime franchise writer Kevin Williamson and Radio Silence member, Chad Villella, are executive producing the film with Project X Entertainment’s Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein and William Sherak serving as producers.

Scream will arrive in theaters on January 14, 2022.
