A new set of character breakdowns have revealed some plot points for DC’s upcoming Birds of Prey film. Revenge of the Fans has some new details on the four lead protagonists, as well as some plot details about how they unite to take on Black Mask.

According to the site, Black Canary (Jurnee Smolett-Bell) will stay more or less true to her origin as “a singer who fights crime at night.” Huntress, played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead, is described as someone who “was a killer for Black Mask right up until discovering that he killed her family. So now she’s hunting him down.” Meanwhile, Harley Quinn is attempting to move on from the Joker, who will be referenced but not appear in Birds of Prey. And finally, Renee Montoya (Rosie Perez) “is on Huntress and Black Canary’s trail because of the body count they’ve amassed.”

The site reports that Black Mask — as yet uncast — will kidnap Cassandra Cain in order to groom her to replace Huntress as his chief assassin. That causes the heroes to band together and rescue Cassie early in the film, followed by the group trying to evade Black Mask’s forces and keep Cassandra safe.

The report also says that Cassie will be treated largely like X-23 was in Logan, with limited dialogue and “presented as a tormented, yet silently deadly killer.” There are also rumors of a big cameo, but the identity was not revealed as it has not been confirmed by the site.

Birds of Prey will be directed by Cathy Yan and releases on February 7th, 2020.
