New G.I. Joe Movie In Development

A new movie in the G.I. Joe franchise is in the works, according to producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura. Di Bonaventura spoke with Collider and told the site that a new film was in the works after their attempt to develop a TV series with Amazon didn’t work out.

“We actually developed a pilot with Amazon,” the producer said. “This was before Paramount+, just as Paramount+ was coming in. It didn’t pan out. We are in a lot of conversations about what to do with it as a film, and so I would have to say, most likely you’re going to see that come to fruition. How soon is always impossible to say. For a long time, there were no active conversations. There’s a lot going on right now.”

The G.I. Joe live action franchise has had its ups and downs, with G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra disappointing but spawning a sequel in G.I. Joe: Retaliation, which proved to be a hit. The 2021 Snake Eyes was a diaster both critically and commercially with a $40.1 million worldwide gross against a $100 million budget.
