Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Cast Grows With Returning Veterans, Ben Kingsley & Nick Offerman Join as New Voices

Variety has an update on new and returning cast members for Sonic the Hedgehog 4. The upcoming sequel is due out next year, and some interesting new names are joining the cast.

Variety reports that Jim Carrey will be back in the upcoming sequel as Dr. Ivo “Eggman” Robotnik, along with Keanu Reeves voicing Shadow the Hedgehog, who is also back. They join other franchise vets Ben Schwartz as Sonic, Idris Elba as Knuckles, Colleen O’Shaughnessey as Tails, James Marsden as Tom Wachowski, Tika Sumpter as Maddie Wachowski, and Lee Majdoub as Agent Stone. As previously noted, the production recently confirmed Kristen Bell as the voice of Amy Rose, who first appeared in a mid-credits scene in Sonic the Hedgehog 3.

Other interesting new cast additions include Ben Kingsley, Matt Berry, Nick Offerman, and Richard Ayoade. The Emmy Award-winning Offerman and the Oscar-winning Kingsley are reportedly voicing characters in the new movie. It’s currently unknown who they will portray.

Plot details are currently under wraps. However, the credits scene at the end of the last movie showed Sonic being attacked by mechanized robot duplicates, Metal Sonic, before he was saved by Amy Rose. Also, Dr. Robotnik seemingly died saving the planet from his grandfather, but Team Sonic thought he was dead before at the end of the second movie.

Paramount Pictures also released an interesting new teaser video for the sequel this week, which appears to feature Carrey as Robotnik, stating, “You think your world is safe, but your time is about to run out. The chaos has only just begun.” The video also features Amy’s hammer crashing through space and flashes of the various characters in the Chaos Emeralds (see below).

Besides the fourth cinematic installment, Variety also notes that Paramount has an untitled “Sonic Universe Event Film” slated for December 22, 2028. So the studio looks to be moving forward with more Sonic spin-offs. Sonic the Hedgehog 4 hits theaters on March 19, 2027.
