The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Sony is working on a possible reboot of their Anaconda franchise, which started with the 1997 original. Evan Daugherty (Tomb Raider, Snow White and the Huntsman) is set to write the script, which is being described as a “reimagining”. A producer has not been attached yet, but it’s being described a similar to 2018’s The Meg in terms of budget and scope.

The original featured a documentary crew in the Amazon that find a hunter who is searching for a monstrous anaconda. When he puts a stop to their trip, they have to deal with him and the giant snake. It starred Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, Jon Voight, Eric Stoltz, Owen Wilson, Kari Wuhrer and Jonathan Hyde. While it was panned by critics, it did well at the box office and got four sequels. One of those was a crossover with Lake Placid, another late 90s giant animal movie.
