Taika Waititi is done with the first pass at the script for Thor: Love & Thunder, but says that “Bro Thor’s” status is still up in the air. Waititi spoke with Yahoo! News promoting his new film Jojo Rabbit and revealed that he has finished a draft of the film, and said that the “Bro Thor” version of the character — also known colloquially as “Fat Thor” — is being discussed within Marvel Studios.

“This is an ongoing debate that we’re still having at Marvel,” Waititi said. “‘Cause we’re trying to figure out how long — how many months or years — this is after Endgame, at what point does this take place? I think we always want to keep changing it up with Thor. He’s so interesting when he’s changing all the time.”

Chris Hemsworth’s thunder god underwent a significant transformation in Avengers: Endgame, which saw him gain a lot of weight due to his depression in the five years after The Snap. That led to his new physique, which he carried throughout the film. Hemsworth will star in Love & Thunder alongside Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie and Waititi as Korg. Waititi is directing from his script, with a November 5th, 2021 release set.
