Riyadh has suspended operations at King Khalid International Airport after new air strikes and threats a few weeks before WWE Crown Jewel. As noted, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has been a target as the US and Israel war with Iran continues. Saturday saw a round of air strikes hit the airport in Riyadh with 12 dead and 300 injured. The US Embassy in Saudi Arabia issued a security alert afterward, noting that it “strongly recommends all U.S. citizens avoid this airport and surrounding areas” and noting the potential of “flight cancellations, airspace closures, and travel disruptions.”
In addition, the BBC reports that Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree called airports and airspace “potential targets and sites for operations by our forces,” while adding that Mecca and Medina are not part of the warning. The AP reports that operations at the airport were suspended on Saturday.
WWE Crown Jewel is set to take place on November 7th in Riyadh. WWE reportedly has contingency plans in place in case they are unable to hold WWE Crown Jewel in the country, though they have not made any public indications that they are changing their plans at this time.
