According to Tessa Thompson, it’s official: Michael B. Jordan is stepping behind the camera to direct Creed III. Thompson confirmed in an interview with MTV News that Jordon will direct the film as well as star in it. This will be Jordan’s directorial debut.

Thompson was joking about Jordan’s being named People’s Sexiest Man Alive for 2020, saying (h/t to JoBlo), “I haven’t talked to him about it because I’m gonna pretend it hasn’t happened. We’re gonna make another Creed very soon, and I don’t need the sexiest man alive to…you know what I mean, I just don’t need it. I don’t need any of it. It’s too much for me to shoulder. It’s too much for me to handle.”

She then confirmed that Jordan is directing the film, noting, that they are “not going to make it until later in the year.”

Jordan starred in the previous two Creed films as the titular Adonis Creed, the son of the Rocky franchise’s Apollo Creed. The first was a massive hit with $173.6 million worldwide and a Best Supporting Actor nomination for Sylvester Stallone, with the second topping the first’s box office at $214.1 million worldwide on an only slightly larger budget. Zach Baylin is writing the third entry, which does not have a release date as of yet.
