Nintendo and Shigeru Miyamoto have found their Zelda and Link. This week, they announced the stars of upcoming live-action movie adaptation of the iconic game franchise, The Legend of Zelda. The new film will star Bo Bragason (Three Girls, The Jetty, Renegade Nell) as the titular Princess Zelda. Meanwhile, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth (The Haunting of Bly Manor, Flora & Ulysses) stars as Link.
The live-action Legend of Zelda movie from Nintendo and Sony has cast its Zelda and Link. Wes Ball is directing the upcoming feature, which is due out in theaters in May 2027.
Miyamoto wrote in his announcement, “I am pleased to announce that for the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda, Zelda will be played by Bo Bragason-san, and Link by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth-san. I am very much looking forward to seeing both of them on the big screen.”
Ball is directing from a script reportedly written by Derek Connolly. No plot details have been revealed as of yet. The Zelda games typically focus on a young hero, Link, and Princess Zelda, as they seek to save the kingdom of Hyrule from the evil Ganon. This marks the first live-action feature film adaptation of the classic gaming franchise, which debuted in 1986.
Sony Pictures will release the film from Nintendo and Avi Arad Productions, Inc. It’s due out in theaters on May 7, 2027.
