The Raid Actor Joe Taslim to Play Sub-Zero in Mortal Kombat Film

New Line has found their icy ninja for the upcoming Mortal Kombat film reboot. THR reports that Joe Taslim (The Raid, Fast & Furious 6) will play Sub-Zero in the film, which will be directed by Simon McQuoid from a script by Greg Russo. The film is produced by James Wan (Aquaman) and begins production in Australia later this year.

The movie is the latest attempt to bring the iconic fighting game to life, following 1995’s Mortal Kombat and its sequel, the largely-disliked Mortal Kombat: Annihilation. Two television series followed before Kevin Tancharoen released two web series that earned him a directorial shot at the feature film in 2012. However, that film was canned due to budgetary issues and Tancharoen left the project in 2013.

Mortal Kombat is set to release on March 5th, 2021.
