Showrunner Angela Kang has confirmed that the second half of The Walking Dead season nine will include the comic’s “Harvest Festival” scene. Kang told EW that the scene will feature in the coming episodes, noting that the festival “becomes a part of the story for the back half of the season.”

In the comics, the Harvest Festival was a scene in which Alpha and the Whisperers laid seige to Alexandria and infiltrate the community’s harvest festival where they kidnap several characters, decapitate them and use their heads on pikes to mark their territory. In the comics version, that included Ezekiel and Rosita.

“We really dove into the idea of what this festival is in a real way for our people,” Kang said. The origins of these kinds of trade fairs were that people from far-flung communities would take a trek and trade useful goods because not every community had every single thing that they needed. It’s a place where people could learn new skills and pick up supplies that they needed. It’s also a chance for them to bond as different communities. In that context, we really get to see what each community is and how they’re even dealing with the very idea of this fair, because obviously, it’s been a point of some contention between the Kingdom and Alexandria. That’s a story that we see play out over the course of the back half.”

While there’s any word that the Whisperers part of that scene will play out — or that Ezekiel or Rosita will be killed — it would be odd for the show to use such a major scene and not include the Whisperers’ big moment (albeit possibly with different characters meeting their end).

The Walking Dead returns on February 10th.
