Tie-In Book Apparently Reveals Jude Law’s Captain Marvel Role At Last
In the build-up to Captain Marvel’s release next month, one thing has been conspicuously absent: the identity of Jude Law’s character. That appears to have finally been solved, as Screen Rant reports that a tie-in book has revealed his role to be that of Yon-Rogg, as many have suggested.
According to the site, the novel Starforce on the Rise by Steve Behling reveals that Starforce’s commander is in fact Yon-Rogg and not Mar-Vell, and works with the Kree Supreme Intelligence on its most secret plans. At the time of the novel, Starforce is a new project and one of Yon-Rogg’s “pet projects.” He considers Carol Danvers to be its most powerful member, despite being the newest recruit.
The idea that Law is playing Yon-Rogg isn’t coming out of nowhere, to be fair. A few bits of marketing have been released that seemed to let the news slip, though they have always come fromo questionable-enough sources (like random Twitter users) that it was hard to be certain.
In Marvel Comics continuity, Yon-Rogg is one of Captain Marvel’s greatest enemies. He was actually responsible for Carol’s transformation into Ms. Marvel when he caused the explosion of a Kree device that changed her DNA, though that event was recently retconned into revealing that the device simply activated the Kree genetics she already had as inherited from her Kree mother. Yon-Rogg has been a regular enemy of both Carol and Mar-Vell over the years.
Captain Marvel opens on March 8th.
