Netflix has opened the door to the trailer for its horror comic adaptation Locke & Key, which puts a spotlight on the story’s darkly magical tone. You can see the trailer below for the series, which will release on Netflix on February 7 and is based on the IDW horror comic by Joe Hill (Stephen King’s son) and Gabriel Rodríguez.

The trailer lays out the basics: the Locke family — young Bode (Jackson Robert Scott), teens Tyler (Connor Jessup) and Kinsey (Emilia Jones), and mother Nina (Darby Stanchfield) — head to their family’s ancestral house where Bode discovers magical keys that unlock doors in the house with magical abilities. But a dark entity lives on the grounds and wants the keys for their own plans.

The series also stars Sherri Saum as Ellie Whedon, Griffin Gluck as Gabe, Laysla De Oliveira as Dodge, Petrice Jones as Scot, and Thomas Mitchell Barnet as Sam Lesser. Created by Carlton Cuse, Aron Eli Coleite, and Meredith Averill, the official logline is:

After their father is murdered under mysterious circumstances, the three Locke siblings and their mother move into their ancestral home, Keyhouse, which they discover is full of magical keys that may be connected to their father’s death. As the Locke children explore the different keys and their unique powers, a mysterious demon awakens — and will stop at nothing to steal them.
