Deadline reports that Woody Harrelson and Mandy More are in talks to star in Roland Emmerich’s new film Midway. Stuart Ford’s AGC Studios recently acquired the international rights to the film, which is based on a script by Wes Tooke. The film will be introduced at Cannes. The movie will have a $100 million budget and will shoot in Hawaii and Canada.
Here’s a synopsis: Based on the true story of the Battle of Midway, a turning point in the Pacific theater of World War II, the film chronicles the heroic and harrowing exploits of the soldiers and aviators who achieved the unbelievable to turn the tide of the war.
It will be produced by Emmerich (Centropolis Entertainment), Harald Kloser and MArk Gordon. Filming begins on August 16. Lionsgate will release the film through Summit Entertainment in the US.
Ford said: “Roland’s track record and brand as a master of big budget action films is second to none and I’m highly confident ‘Midway’ will make a big splash in the Cannes marketplace.”
The last time a big budget film based on the Battle of Midway was released was 1976’s Midway, which starred Charlton Heston, Henry Fonda, James Coburn and Toshiro Mifune.
