DMX’s Passing Trends On Twitter Despite Rapper Not Being Dead Yet
Reports of DMX’s passing trended on Twitter on Thursday night despite the rapper not having actually died. As previously reported, the rapper was hospitalized after a possible overdose and has been in critical condition at the ICU.
Thursday night saw several hashtags related to DMX dying proliferate on Twitter including “RIP DMX,” “Damn DMX,” and his real name of Earl Simmons. However, no outlets had reported his passing at that time. The trending appears to have come from streetwear company SAINT, who posted “BREAKING: DMX has passed away at the age of 50” after seeing an Instagram post from a friend of DMX’s which seemed to imply he had passed. Saint has since deleted the tweet and posted an apology, writing:
“We have deleted the tweet out of respect for DMX and his loved ones.
A close friend of DMX posted this on her Instagram story, has since been taken down.
We apologize for any confusion.
Prayers still going out to him and his family”
Those reports have been officially debunked, as DMX’s manager Steve Rifkind posted a video to Instagram confirming the rapper is still alive and saying, “Please stop with posting these rumors.” He added that a statement from the family is coming tomorrow.
As of now, DMX is still alive. It has been reported that he is in a coma and has been unresponsive.
