Kanye West Barred From Performing At Grammys Over ‘Concerning’ Online Behavior
Kanye West has been barred from performing at this year’s Grammy Awards, reportedly due to West’s “concerning online behavior.” A representative of the musician told Variety on Sunday after an initial report in The Blast that he had been “removed” from the lineup of performers for the April 3rd telecast due to his online behavior. West was not on the first list of performers announced on Tuesday, though it’s possible he was planned and would have been announced later.
West has been in the public eye due to his constant online attacks on his estranged wife’s Kim Kardashian’s new boyfriend, SNL star Pete Davidson. The rapper has regularly posted attacks on Davidson and Kardashian amid the West and Kardashian’s divorce proceedings, which he has kept incredibly public. As the site also points out, West recently took shots at Daily Show Trevor Noah after he did a segment for the show regarding the split, saying among other things:
“I’ll be honest with you — what I see from the situation is a woman who wants to live her life without being harassed by an ex-boyfriend or an ex-husband or an ex-anything.”
In a response to that segment, West fired off an Instagram post using a slur against Noah. West’s Instagram account, which he has been posting to and wiping clean on a semi-regular basis, was suspended for 24 hours as a result of his attacks.
Noah is set to be the host for the Grammy telecast, and the outlet notes that Grammy producers may have had reason to be concerned about the famously off-script West making comments about Kardashian and Davidson or Noah, among other possibilities.
West is nominated for five awards at the 2022 Grammys including Album of the Year (Donda) and as a producer on Lil Nas X’s Montero), Best Melodic Rap Performance (“Hurricane”), Best Rap Album (Donda), and Best Rap Song (“Jail”).
