Adam Copeland Doesn’t Regret Cage Jump At AEW Double Or Nothing 2024

Adam Copeland still feels the effects of his infamous cage jump at AEW Double Or Nothing 2024, but he says he doesn’t regret it. Copeland leaped off the top of the cage during his Barbed Wire Steel Cage against Malakai Black at the May 2024 PPV, a decision that resulted in a broken leg that kept him out for five months of action.
Copeland reflected on the moment during his appearance on the Ariel Helwani show while talking about giving advice to Darby Allin. He noted that he still feels the effects of that break occasionally but doesn’t regret it at all. You can see the highlights below:
On Who He Enjoys Giving Advice To Backstage:
“You know, they’re all just so excited. But I sit down with Darby, and him and I will get into some existential conversations. But I really, really enjoy his energy and his outlook on life. Hangman, great dude. Swerve and I [have] been buds for a long time. I love that MJF is always, always, always going to come to the table with ideas. Give me a guy like that as opposed to someone who just expects it.
“And really more than anything, it feels like a locker room of that. Of people like, ‘Okay, I want to give this a shot. I want to give this a shot. I want to give this a shot and keep trying until something sticks.’ Lio Rush is another guy. He’s throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what sticks, man. And he’s going for it, and he’s allowed to go for it. And I think that really is the key, especially when you have a lot of creatives under the same roof.”
On Telling Allin To Ease Up Despite His Own Big Risks:
“Well, that that’s why he won’t listen to me. [laughs] We actually did have that conversation. He went, ‘Okay, were you saying that when you jumped in the flaming table?’ I went, ‘Well, bit of a point.’ And honestly, I’m still that guy sometimes. Like, should I jump off a 21-foot cage? Nope. Did I? Yep. [laughs] I was feeling young and dumb, but I was only one of those things.”
On If He Regrets the Cage Jump:
“Nah, man. It’s part of it. It’s just part of it. You don’t expect to walk out of this unharmed, you know? More than anything though, what I will say is — I feel like that one has lingered with me. So, that injury in particular, I feel it every once in a while. I’ll go to take a step, and the leg will just give. I’m like, ‘Okay, right. There’s a plate and screws in there now. I got I got to keep track of that.’ It’s also the same leg that I tore the Achilles. So you know, it reminds me, but I don’t regret it, man. It’s all part of the process. It’s all part.
“When I got up there and I looked down, I went, ‘Oh, these cages are higher, I think.’ They were. [laughs] More than anything was seeing Malakai’s face and going, ‘Okay, I can’t kill him. I gotta try and do an elbow drop, not a splash. Here it goes!”
