AEW Star Rebel Diagnosed With Terminal ALS

A former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader, and current multihyphenate as a successful dancer, actress, cosmetologist, and wrestler, Rebel (pictured above on the right) has had an unfortunate share of health issues lately. She was diagnosed with lung cancer last November, and now a neurological disorder that seemed to be functional has turned out to in fact be ALS, the terminal motor neuron disorder commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
ALS deteriorates the body’s muscles until death. Stephen Hawking was its most famous sufferer, though he lived abnormally long for someone with the condition. The rare disease has no clear known cause, and usually strikes after the age of 60. Rebel is 47.
She announced her diagnosis via Instagram. The relevant remarks, transcribed by Figure Four Online, are as follows:
“First, I want to say thank you for all your prayers, because for those who know, I spent a two-year medical journey trying to find out what is wrong.
And finally, our prayers have been answered.
The thing is, sometimes we don’t want to hear the answer to our prayers.
And so, while I was waiting to have lung surgery for the masses on my lungs, the doctors at Mayo found, finally found, what’s going on.
The doctors have diagnosed me with terminal ALS.
There is not a lot of research behind ALS, and we don’t know how long I have, but it explains why I have trouble walking and talking, and all my functions will soon decline. But now we can prepare for the future and what is to come.”
She thanked Tony Khan and asked for fan prayers. You can see the video below.
