During a recent chat with Swerve Strickland, Bootleg Kev revealed on his podcast his conversations with Jelly Roll about his work in WWE. Bootleg Kev indicated that Jelly Roll was aware that fans would respond negatively to him having a role in the headlining feud between Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton at WrestleMania 42.

Rather, Jelly Roll pushed to be in more of a midcard comedy feud, similar to what he did with Kit Wilson, rather than a high-profile one. Below are some highlights (via Fightful):

On Jelly Roll Being Aware of How Fans Didn’t Want Him Involved With the WrestleMania Main Event

“I’m really close to Jelly Roll. He was very self aware of that he was being pushed into a storyline that he probably didn’t need to be pushed into. He was pushing — he was being very vocal about wanting to be involved in a storyline that is still playing out currently, that was more comedic. He was like, ‘Guys, if you put me into this thing, I promise you it’s going to cook. It’s going to ****.'”

On Hearing Jelly Roll Have Those Conversations With WWE

“I was there at SmackDown in Phoenix, and I heard him having these convos with certain people at WWE. They still decided to — and look, if you’re him, you’re like, hey man, if you’re going to push me into the main event of WrestleMania, I’m not going to say no. But, I don’t think people are going to [like it].”

Jelly Roll played a role in Orton’s match with Rhodes. He helped Cody deal with Pat McAfee early on, putting McAfee through an announce desk. Later on, the musician said in a vlog about his WrestleMania appearance, “We had one goal tonight, and I kind of succeeded. Pat, I love you, man. Neither one of us had any business here. I say we get back to what we’re good at, man.”
