During a recent edition of Busted Open Radio, WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray evaluated how AEW followed up the Darby Allin vs. Jon Moxley I Quit Match at AEW WrestleDream. Based on last week’s AEW Dynamite, it appears AEW is continuing the feud between Darby Allin and the Death Riders.
Bully Ray and co-host Dave LaGreca critiqued the decision to continue the Allin and Death Riders storyline, with Bully Ray critiquing the “glaring holes” in AEW’s creative direction due to their lack of star power and storylines. Below are some highlights:
Bully Ray on the glaring holes in the creative direction of AEW
“Personally, I’m just having, I’m really having a hard time with the glaring holes. It’s always the lack of — me and you [Dave LaGreca] on the air, all the time, we go through the AEW cycle, right? And what happens? We get to the pay-per-view, and the pay-per-view is good or it’s great. It’s fun and exciting, and you can feel the energy in the room, and they have good houses. And then we always talk about the follow-up. And then there seems to be a lack of follow-up.”
On AEW continuing the Jon Moxley and Darby Allin feud
“They have to. They’re forced. They have no star power because they need star power. They need more story.”
On how Moxley lost at WrestleDream not requiring him to be off TV
“Well, you [Dave LaGreca] were *****ing that he tapped out in three seconds to a Scorpion Deathlock, okay, right? So what would happen that would really keep him on the shelf? Yes, he said, I quit. The move hurt. So, for those three seconds, he said I quit. It’s not like Darby lit him on fire, where he’s in a medical facility or a hospital nursing second-degree burns. He tapped after getting hit with a bat, and in a Sharpshooter for three seconds. So why would he be off TV?”
Additionally, Bully Ray voiced that he’d rather see Jon Moxley in a new storyline involving his real-life wife, AEW broadcaster Renee Paquette, in AEW, rather than a storyline involving the Death Riders.
Following his loss at WrestleDream, Jon Moxley competed on AEW Dynamite, losing to Kyle O’Reilly via disqualification. Moxley punched the referee to avoid losing via a submission again, causing the DQ.
Later in the night, Darby Allin came out to offer the assist to The Conglomeration after they beat the Death Riders in a tag team bout.
