Carmelo Hayes Says a WWE US Title Reign Is ‘Inevitable’ For Him

Carmelo Hayes believes that he is destined to have a run with the WWE United States Championship. Hayes has been busy on the WWE Smackdown roster and lost a US Championship #1 contenders match to Andrade on last week’s episode of the Friday night show. He told The Ringer’s Masked Man Show that he does believe a run with the title, currently held by LA Knight, is in his future.

“It’s inevitable,” Hayes said (h/t to Fightful(. “It’s my fate, it’s my destiny, you know what I mean? The United States championship, you look at all of the guys that held that previously, it’s the perfect first title for a guy. Especially a guy like me, who does take a lot of pride in my work rate. They talk about the mid card titles being the work rate titles, the Intercontinental and things like that. I definitely take pride in my work, so I want to excel in other areas as well and I think that’s the perfect title to learn.”

Hayes added, “To be in that position where you have people coming after you is the perfect time to learn, that’s why I think I enjoy being champion so much in NXT because it was like, you come for me, you come for me, and that makes me have to work harder.”

Hayes is a former NXT Champion and has been locked in his feud with Andrade since July.
