During a recent virtual signing with K&S WrestleFest, AEW’s Christopher Daniels addressed the longstanding rumors that he was at one point considered to be revealed as The Higher Power of The Undertaker back in 1999. According to Daniels, he never heard about the rumor until later in his career, and he was never personally approached by WWE for the role.

Daniels said around that time, Jim Cornette was trying to get him hired with WWE, and he had begun portraying a spiritual character. Below are some highlights of his comments:

Christopher Daniels on the Higher Power Rumor

“I’ve heard that [rumor]. I didn’t hear that until much later down the line. I think it was thought about, but I don’t think it was ever really…considered, honestly. I feel like…there was a period of time that Jim Cornette was trying to get me a job with WWE. And I was doing a spiritual character, and I think maybe they thought ‘Oh, this might be cool.'”

On How It Wouldn’t Have Made Sense

“But then, you know, I’m 5 ’10, I’m not really well known, and it didn’t make a lot of sense to me to be the boss of The Undertaker. Like, it might’ve made more sense if I was, like, a subordinate to The Undertaker. But yeah, I don’t think it would’ve been a good idea, so there you go.”

Of course, Vince McMahon would eventually reveal himself as The Undertaker’s Higher Power on the June 7, 1999 edition of Monday Night Raw. Meanwhile, Daniels did make some appearances on WWE Jakked and Shotgun Saturday Night, but he never signed with the company.
