Cook’s AAA on FOX Review 4.25.26

Hey kids! Steve Cook here with you for the latest edition of AAA on Mexico’s FOX & the United States’ YouTube! We’ve got three big matches tonight, featuring El Grande Americano 2 teaming with AAA legend Texano Jr. to take on Mecha Wolf & El Mesias! I looked up Texano Jr’s Wikipedia page to refresh myself on his history, and it turns out he’s two months younger than me. I feel attacked by this portrayal of Texano Jr. as a legend. We’re not that old!

Cook’s Lucha Libre AAA Review 4.25.26

Then. Now. Forever. Together!

We’re in Mexico City! Rey Fenix & La Parka are WALKING! Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. is WALKING! El Mesias & Mecha Wolf are WALKING, as are Texano Jr. & El Grande Americano 2! Corey Graves, JBL & Rey Mysterio are our hosts.

Rey Fenix & La Parka vs. Money Machine (Garra de Oro & Colmillo de Plata): Money Machine attack right away, but get dumped outside so Fenix & Parka can hit tope suicidas. Fenix with his usual awful landing. The bell rings as Parka hits a frog splash that gets two. Parka with a headlock, Money Machine with some knees, then they go for a double suplex, Parka blocks and suplexes them both. Fenix tags in and gets double superkicked for two. Oro mounts Fenix with punches. Plata comes in, they hit a double strike in the corner & Fenix fights out of a powerbomb. He kicks Plata, but Oro keeps the tag from happening. Oro with a crossbody splash for two. Plata with some elbows to Fenix. Fenix gets clotheslined out of his boots, Parka gets knocked off the apron & Money Machine tosses Fenix into the corner, Fenix with a kick to Oro, and one for Plata. Parka tags in and hit some clotheslines and a flapjack. Tiltawhirl backbreaker, then a sitout powerbomb gets two on Oro. Fenix tags in, Money Machine fight back, sending Parka outside and elbowing Fenix into the corner. Parka eats a dive, Oro hits a back suplex, but then gets kicked by Parka. Plata misses a twisting splash off the top, Fenix with the running superkick. Parka grazes Plata with a top rope dropkick. Parka dives onto Plata on the floor, Fenix with a running palm strike to Oro. Fenix hits the Mexican Musclebuster for three!

Winners: Rey Fenix & La Parka (6:26 via pinfall)
Match Rating: **1/2
Nice to see Money Machine get some offense here, I think they’ve done well with what they’ve been given so far. Fenix & Parka are over enough that their matches are going to get a good response from AAA fans no matter who they’re up against. Fenix seems to have plans for his future other than teaming with Parka, but this was a good way to keep them involved.

We get a quick recap of the history between Texano Jr. & El Mesias, using some old AAA footage. Texano defeated Mesias to be the youngest Mega Champion in history! Next, we’ll hear from La Catalina!

We see some clips of AAA wrestlers appearing during WrestleMania Weekend.

La Catalina is at her first WrestleMania, it’s emotional & crazy and she knows that she’ll wrestle on it soon. She meets John Cena! She has goosebumps and is very excited. Dominik Mysterio introduces himself and reminds her that AAA is her company. Catalina drew herself with the Reina de Reinas title when she was a kid. She was in WWE when she was younger, but she had to reinvent herself completely. The La Catalina from the past doesn’t compare to the one of now. Las Toxicas should be worried. La Catalina will be a hero for all the little girls. She seems like a nice lady!

Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. vs. Laredo Kid: Rey puts Wagner’s mask over as the most beautiful in lucha libre while JBL talks about how his father still carries himself as a legend. Laredo with some strikes to Wagner, he gets smashed & chopped in the corner. Wagner sends Laredo outside via ringpost, misses a dive and gets superkicked. Laredo hits a flip dive onto Wagner on the floor. Back in the ring, Laredo hits a top rope splash to Wagner’s back that gets two. Laredo tries to grab a hold, but Wagner fights out and they exchange strikes. Laredo kicks Wagner in the kidneys. The fans chant for Wagner as Laredo continues his offense. Laredo misses a move off the second rope, Wagner with a mafia kick and a headbutt, then a slap. DVD by Wagner gets two. Wagner removes the elbow pad, then gets slapped. Laredo with a neckbreaker, Wagner rolls outside. Laredo slides over him, kicks Wagner, hits a 450 off the apron to the floor! Wowie! Cover in the ring gets two. Wagner in the corner, he evades Laredo, they go to the apron and Wagner slams Laredo down to the floor! Cover in the ring gets two. Wagner hits the Prettiest Moonsault Ever for two! Wagner Driver finally finishes off Laredo.

Winner: Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. (6:54 via pinfall)
Match Rating: **3/4
They were throwing a lot of stuff out there for a seven minute match. The release of Santos Escobar makes me wonder what’s in Wagner’s future, since it seemed like they were in line for a big feud. Considering he’s out here facing another face champion, I think that Wagner’s future hasn’t been decided. Laredo seems to be heading towards heeldom given his frustration here and during the next backstage segment.

After the match, Wagner gives Laredo his Cruiserweight Championship and asks for a handshake. After some hesitation Laredo accepts.

We see more Mesias vs. Texano highlights, this time from 2016. Texano defeated Mesias in his last match in AAA until tonight!

Fenix tells Laredo to relax, he knows he’s better than what he showed tonight. Laredo thinks that Fenix is jealous of him because he has a championship, just like Penta does. Laredo walks off and Fenix is verklempt.

Marisela Pena talks about how it’s time to make history again. She’s proud to announce that AAA will have a new General Manager, and she’ll be looking for the best person to fill this role and take Lucha Libre to new heights. She’ll name the new GM on May 23 in Mexico City, and nothing will be the same afterward. Dorian Roldan will be the favorite and hyped as such but I’m guessing they put somebody else in the spot.

El Grande Americano 2 & Texano Jr. vs. Mecha Wolf & El Mesias: Mesias in some Dr. Doom entrance attire tonight. Does AAA still have a partnership with Marvel in Mexico? I’m not sure, but the announcers aren’t saying anything about it. Next week’s show will feature a contract signing with the Americanos that I’m sure will go on without controversy or people getting beat up. EGA & Mecha start. Mecha gets the early advantage and stomps & punches EGA. Chop to EGA, EGA with a leg lariat and an arm drag into a hammerlock on the mat. EGA with the headstand, claps his feet then floats over. The man’s a skilled grappler. EGA tags Texano in, Texano with a strike but Mesias tags in pretty soon after to continue his issue with Texano. Strikes are exchanged. Mesias elbows Texano down, but Texano hits a sliding clothesline that sends Mesias outside. EGA sends Mecha out, a dive is teased but Texano & EGA play to the crowd instead. Mesias goes for Texano’s rope, Texano has to take it back and that leads to a distraction and Mecha & Mesias working Texano over. Elbow Hart Attack gets two. Wolf & Mesias hit a double strike on Texano on the ropes for two. Mesias with a chinlock, he takes Texano down and stomps him, but Texano hits a backbreaker and a clothesline to take Mesias down. Tags to Mecha & EGA! EGA with the upper hand of course, big backdrop & clothesline to Mecha. Clothesline off the second rope gets two. Mesias broke it up and Texano tries to break him up. Mesias responds with a powerslam, EGA kicks him down, Mecha gets running sentoned, Mesias with a spear on EGA, Texano takes Mesias outside and they fight there until Mecha hits a dive on Texano. EGA catches Mecha and the table with a dive, then, punches Mesias before Texano spears Mesias through the barricade! In the ring, EGA hits the flying headbutt, locks in La Cabarania and gets the submission! There was no bell rung but I assume the match is over. In fairness, they haven’t been using bells for too long.

Winners: El Grande Americano 2 & Texano Jr. (8:16 via submission)
Match Rating: ***
Pretty basic main event that worked since the audience cared about the participants. I don’t know if they have future plans for Texano, but he worked well in this role.

EGA lets Texano have the ring for his celebration. The fans chant for Texano until Original El Grande Americano attacks! He knocks Texano chest-first onto the ropes and applies the anklelock with assistance from the turnbuckle! EGA runs down and OGA exits to the floor. EGA checks on Texano while OGA looks on. So long for now!

Good show that kept things moving in the Americano storyline and kept some names in the mix for later. There wasn't anything really must-see, but there also wasn't anything bad.
