Csonka’s ROH TV Review 8.03.16

OFFICIAL RESULTS
– Moose defeated P Dogg @ 1:09 via pin [NR]
– Donovan Dijak defeated Moose @ 7:34 via pin [***]
– Jay Lethal & The Briscoes defeated Adam Cole & The Young Bucks @ 13:50 via pin [***½ ]

– We get highlights from last week, which featured an awesome Lethal vs. O’Reilly match, with great physical selling from O’Reilly and some great character work from Lethal.

Jay Lethal Talks: Lethal made his way to the ring, and says last week was not right, because O’Reilly should not have had to fight him hurt and that Bullet Club stole O’Reilly’s chance. He had to do what he had to do in order to win, and he hated that. Lethal wants to make things right, and wants to be added to the main event as well as Adam Cole to make it a six-man match. Nigel agreed and made the match.

– Steve Corino and Kevin Sullivan met in the park for a picnic. Corino wanted to now why Sullivan attacked him and not Whitmer. Sullivan claimed he had to choose between two sons and that Corino was hurting their universe, and now he can go home and play house. All that was missing was some coffee and a chessboard and it was an afternoon with grandpa.

– P Dogg and the Get Along Gang were in the ring. Dogg was spitting some rhymes, and then talked some shit to Moose. Moose came out to kill him.

Moose w/Stokely Hathaway vs. P Dogg: For those wondering, P Dogg is former TNA referee Mike “Dropkick” Posey. Who left refereeing to be an independent wrestler years back and regularly works the southern indies. Pre-match, Moose tossed around the gang and sent then to the floor. He powerbombed one of them onto the pile on the floor, and then started the ass beating on Dogg. Buckle bomb, spear and another spear all connect. Moose covered him with one foot to complete the squash.

– Prince nana and Donovan Dijak arrived, and praised Moose, saying that the destruction we saw is why he brought Moose to ROH. Nana says Moose has beaten some of the best, but now wants Moose to face Donovan Dijak to prove to the people who the best big man is. Hathaway agreed to the match.

Donovan Dijak w/Prince Nana vs. Moose w/Stokely Hathaway : Dijak attacked before the bell, but Moose quickly fought back and sent him to the floor and they brawled to the floor. Moose went beast mode and slammed Dijak to the barricade a few times, but Dijak caught Moose on a charge and chokeslammed him onto the ring apron. Back in the ring, Dijak scored with the sitout powerbomb for a near fall. Dijak then decided to go high risk, but as he went up top, Moose popped up and dropkicked him off the top and to the floor. Moose then scored with a sky high for a great near fall as Dijak tried to slingshot into the ring. They went back and forth, slugging it out center ring hoss style. Dijak fired up, but Moose cut him off with the jabs as the crowd chanted along. Moose then hit the big bicycle kick, but crashed and burned off the top. Moose countered feat your eyes and hit a lariat, but Dijak side stepped the spear and Moose posted him self. Dijak hit the choke breaker, but Moose kicked out at 1! Dijak hit a series of strikes and hit feast your eyes (basically a torture rack GTS) for the win.

– Post match Dijak laid out Hathaway with a big boot, and I believe that this is the TV send off for both Moose and Hathaway.

– The Addiction cut a promo, discussing how they run the tag team division.

– The Cabinet cut one of their make wrestling great promos. These guys, they are no good.

Jay Lethal & The Briscoes vs. Adam Cole & The Young Bucks: They started with the big brawl and the faces hitting dives onto Bullet Club. They brawled on the floor for a while and set up a table, but the Bucks cut them off and put a stop to that. Bullet Club took the heat on Jay Briscoe, isolating him in their corner. The heat was good, never slow and then Mark got a hot tag. He ran wild and got a near fall on Cole. Lethal tagged in, it broke down and Mark was sent through the table on the floor and we took a commercial break. Post break, Mark was taken backstage and Bullet Club had the 3 on 2 advantage. Bullet Club worked the heat on Lethal, who got his he spots, but kept getting cut off. Again, the heat was good as they kept good control and it never felt slow. Lethal started to fight off all three, hit superkicks and a cutter on the floor and then Nick accidentally hit Cole. Lethal hit the lethal combination and finally got the hot tag to Jay Briscoe. He hit superkicks and then a neck breaker on Cole for a near fall. Really good back and forth from both men, and we took another commercial break. Post break, Lethal was back in and fighting off both Bucks and then ate double superkicks. It broke down, with Briscoe laying them out with clotheslines. Cole then ate the lethal injection and Lethal rolled up a Buck for the win. That was a fun and action packed match, but Bullet Club really should have won. They gave the faces an out with Mark being taken to the back. Instead of the heels coming off like the worst of the worst, they lost to two guys and then did the big get your heat back angle, which makes he loss mean nothing. The loss didn’t make them snap, they snapped because Cole was being denied a title shot.

– Post match, Bullet Club beat down Briscoe, and hit the Jay driller on a chair. They then triple superkicked Lethal and after another triple superkick, the Bucks held Lethal on the ropes as Cole started to cut Lethal’s hair. He first used scissors, and then busted out the clippers and cut the hair of the champion. As they did this, they told Nigel that it was all his fault as Cole held the title and said he would make it his. The closing angle was good, but lacked the heat from the crowd to make it feel great.

– So considering the booking, Lethal demands he faces Cole, which will get Nigel to drop the “no title match” decree on Cole. Cole then beats Lethal for the title later this month, and we get Cole vs. O’Reilly at Final Battle, where O’Reilly finally wins the title.

– End scene.

– Thanks for reading.
