David Arquette recently explained what happened when he fell through the stage during an episode of WCW Thunder. The actor and one-time WCW World Heavyweight Champion was infamously part of a mishap on the May 3rd, 2000 episode of WCW’s Thursday night show. Arquette came out during a brawl between Jeff Jarrett and Diamond Dallas Page and ended up going through the gimmicked stage that was meant for one of those two.
Arquette was asked about the matter during a Reddit AMA promoting the 30th anniversary of Scream. He noted that he was not told specifically where the gimmicked area was.
“They forgot to tell me specifically where the area was,” Arquette recalled. “They just told me go out and go to the right. The long story is they didn’t want me wrestling in Memphis given Andy Kaufman history and the hatred of me being the champion at the time.”
He continued, “So I had the day off, I went to Graceland, and showed up right before I had to go out. They said “Just go out there and go to the right,” and I fell through the stage. I looked up looking at them looking down at me, their faces said WHAT A MORON and I rolled out of the way!!!”
Arquette also noted that he “always remember[s] that date” of his WCW World Championship win because it is the same day as his wife Christina’s birthday.
