On a recent episode of his podcast, “Grilling JR,” Jim Ross discussed WWE’s current top-of-the-card alignment and singled out CM Punk as a natural villain. Punk is set to defend the WWE Undisputed Title against Chode Rhodes at SummerSlam. You can check out his comments below:  Here are the highlights:

On Punk Being a Better Heel

“That’s a tough question. I think Punk is probably more than suited to be a heel, because of the way he looks and the way he acts, and the way he talks and all that stuff. But that doesn’t mean the other two gentlemen can’t be heels and successful heels as well, because they can. That’s the whole issue right now — the point I’m trying to get to is that WWE doesn’t have anybody that’s white hot that can sell tickets in their current creative capacity. It’s an interesting scenario. But they’ve got lots of talent, man. They’ve got to commit to a talent and ride that talent until they’re rocking and rolling, and that’s going to take consistency and continuity. It’s a big process to get somebody over big time. It takes a lot of effort, and it can’t just happen at TV — there’s got to be a whole package put together to make that thing work.”

On Royce Keys Competing at SummerSlam:

“It sure is, and I’m happy for him. He needed a landing spot, and he’s found a good landing spot in this six-man tag. Now he’s got to go out there and turn heads — be great, not average, great. His role may be small, but you take a small role and you make it great. And that’s his challenge right now. Good guy, deserves happiness and success without question. I’m glad. I’m happy for him. He made the right decision going to WWE. I think Triple H is going to like working with him, if he hasn’t already discovered that. So we’ll stay tuned.”
