20th Century Studios is diving back into Xenomorph territory, with a new Alien film reportedly in the works. THR reports that Aaron Guzikowski has been brought on to write a mystery film in the Alien franchise for 20th Century Studios and Ridley Scott.

Guzikowski previously worked with Scott on HBO Max’s Raised By Wolves. He also wrote Denis Villeneuve’s 2013 film Prisoners. At the moment, Scott is only producing the film and will not direct.

Plot details are being kept under lock and key. However, the report notes that the film is not a sequel to Alien: Romulus and instead is related to Scott’s Prometheus and Alien: Covenant. The Romulus sequel has in limbo since Fede Alvarez stepped back from directing it in September of last year.

Sources said that Michael Fassbender’s android David, who became an antagonist in Covenant after first appearing in Prometheus, is the “connective tissue” between those films and the new film. Fassbender is not currently attached.

The Alien franchise was reinvigorated by Alien: Romulus, which grossed $350.9 million against an $80 million budget. Alien: Covenant underperformed with $242 million against a budget of $110 million. 20th Century also has a hit in the FX series Alien: Earth, which has been renewed for a second season that begins filming next year.
