Hello everyone and welcome to 411mania’s LIVE coverage of Impact Wrestling. I’m Robert Winfree, your host for the time being. Tonight should wrap up the content that Impact taped in Mexico City. Last week they closed with a really high paced lucha influenced tag team title match between LAX and the Lucha Bros, on the schedule this week are a couple of title matches. There’s a scheduled Street Fight for the Impact Knockouts Title when former champion Tessa Blanchard tries to reclaim the title from Taya Valkyrie, plus a Fatal 4-Way for the Impact World Title as champion Johnny Impact battles Brian Cage, Killer Kross, and Moose. Also the eight man tag match between team AAA and team Impact for the annual World Cup, so we should get some solid in ring stuff.

Per usual, if you don’t have Pursuit channel Impact is simulcast on their Twitch channel right HERE. Also I wont be doing star ratings, I’m just not comfortable enough with my understanding of the genre and where it is objectively.

We open with a hype package for the three featured bouts of the evening, it’s well done but also the generic wrestling hype package. We’re starting off with the street fight.

Bout #1 Impact Knockouts Championship Match: (c) Taya Valkyrie vs. Tessa Blanchard

Blanchard jumps Valkyrie on the ramp but Valkyrie turns the tables on her and starts kicking her down to the ring side apron. Valkyrie tosses Blanchard into the ring but gets cut off when trying to get in herself. Blanchard grabs a chair and sets it between the ropes in the corner, then she tries to whip Valkyrie into it but Valkyrie puts the brakes on, hits a go behind and a hard German suplex. A few kicks to the spine from Valkyrie wind up with a 1 count from a cover. Elbows from Valkyrie then she tosses Blanchard out of the ring and tries to dive but runs into a baking sheet. Blanchard mocks Valkyrie then tosses her between the ring post and the barricades. Next Blanchard gets a chair and just throws it into Valkyrie’s head before hitting a running drop kick into the chair as it’s against Valkyrie’s head. That looked nasty. Valkyrie with a kick to the gut then a shot with that baking sheet/sheet metal. Valkyrie sets to charge but gets back body dropped into the crowd, she grabs a beer from a fan and smacks Blanchard with it. Valkyrie tries to jump off of the barricade but Blanchard cuts her off and grabs a chair, wraps it around Valkyrie’s head and slams her into the ring post. Blanchard grabs some spare cable and tosses it into the ring then starts choking Valkyrie with it. She bails on that and tears the other shirt off of Valkyrie’s ring attire, spits on it and tosses it into Valkyrie’s face. Blanchard tosses loot into the ring then charges at Valkyrie but Valkyrie drop toe holds her into the chair that was set up in the corner to take the momentum. Clotheslines from Valkyrie, then a series in the corner and a running double knee strike as Blanchard was collapsed in the corner. Valkyrie sets the sheet metal between Blanchard’s legs the golf swings a chair into the metal and gets a 2 count off of a cover. Blanchard counters a Road to Valhalla and starts laying in shots with a chair. Valkyrie kicks out of a cover at 2 and Blanchard is back looking under the ring for more plunder. Blanchard tossed a bunch of chairs into the ring, slams Valkyrie into one of them and tries to go up top but Valkyrie recovers and throws a chair into her face. Valkyrie up top now and hits a Samoan drop onto a chair as we head to break.

Hosting us during breaks tonight is Melissa Santos instead of the usual Skype call between commentators Josh Matthews and Don Callis.

We come back to Valkyrie landing rights, Blanchard returns them but Valkyrie fires up and we get the old “boo, yay” trading of offense. They actually do the old Necro Butcher sit down slug fest spot, they trade chaps and slaps then Valkyrie folds up her chair and kicks it into the face of Blanchard but still only gets a 2 count. Blanchard spears Valkyrie into a table that was in the corner but the table didn’t break, so Blanchard just repeats the spot and while part of the table is folding it’s still not broken. Rather than go for that spot again Blanchard covers for 2 then goes outside for another weapon, this time another table. Blanchard tosses the table into the ring, sets it up near the corner and drapes Valkyrie over the table. Now Blanchard goes up top but again gets cut off and Valkyrie pushes her to the outside, then climbs up to the top rope and jumps onto Blanchard on the outside. Valkyrie rolls Blanchard into the ring but only gets a 1 count, tries to set up her STF variant but Blanchard kicks her off then gets set up on the table after a knee from Valkyrie. The table partially collapsed, could be dangerous, but Valkyrie gets a double stomp through the table to retain her title.

OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER and STILL Impact Knockouts Champion – Taya Valkyrie via pinfall

Felt a bit like just moving from spot to spot but the spots were solid and both women sold the hatred and the action was suitably brutal for a Street Fight. That cuts to our GWN flashback of the week, Dez of the Rascalz winning the Super X Cup from August of 2017. I’m a little surprised at the lack of air time celebration for Valkyrie, but I don’t know the order things were taped in which would impact things.

Back from the flash back and we’ve got team Impact, Sami Callihan, Fallah Bahh, Eddie Edwards, and Eli Drake. Callihan tries to declare himself leader but takes issue with Bahh being Bahh, but Edwards and Drake wind up taking over as Callihan storms off. Drake says there’s a lot of money on the line, runs down his teammates in a pretty glorious bit of smugness then mentions how they can use all of them to win, implores Eddie Edwards one last time to put away the kendo stick and trade in the jeans and tennis shoes for tights and wrestling boots. He closes with his catchphrase and Eddie Edwards looks with a bit of trepidation at the kendo stick. That will lead us to another break.

Back from the break we get Ethan Page making his way to the ring.

Bout #2: Ethan Page vs. Willie Mack

The crowd is behind Mack to get things going. Page opens up with strikes in the corner then Mack reverses a whip, Page leap frogs over him and Mack poses with a head stand on the turnbuckles then lands a spinning cross body to Page. Chops from Mack, then he fakes a chop into a double nipple twister, Page cries out “Why Willie”. Page slips off the back of Mack and hits a DDT to get control of the match. Mounted rights from Page, then he lets Mack up so he can hit him in the corner with punches and chops. Suplex attempt from Page is reversed and Mack lands the suplex. Strikes in the corner from Mack then he runs into a boot from Page, and another one then Page with a jumping roundhouse from the second rope but only gets a 2 count on the pinfall attempt. Ground strikes from Page then he tosses Mack into the corner but misses a charge and Mack hits a series of charging attacks that culminates with a cannonball. Mack hits a Samoan drop then kips up for a standing moonsault but only gets 2. Stunner attempt from Mack but Page counters, hits a few kicks then a scoop driver but he only gets 2 as well. Page counters another stunner attempt, but Mack gets the next one he tries and gets a 3 count from it.

OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Willie Mack via pinfall

Mack poses then we cut to a video from Killer Kross. Kross says Johnny will need a miracle to get out of this one alive as everyone in the ring for the fatal 4 was has beaten him. He hopes Johnny is focused, because if he’s not then his mind will wander and that will let Kross attack and annihilate. He says that in the end everyone pays the toll and he’s not going away. The camera shifts to Willie Mack making his way to the locker room but Jake and Dave Crist of oVe follow him in as we hit our next break.

We come back to team AAA to hype the World Cup. Psycho Clown promises victory, Puma King agrees and they all take turns staring into the camera as they make their way out of the interview area.

Sami Callihan makes his way to the ring, not for the World Cup match but for a promo about his history with Rich Swann. He says he’s not here to talk to anyone but Swann, and asks that Swann pay attention in the back. He talks about how everyone knows they have a near familial bond, he references the interview from Swann last week and calls what Swann said fake news. He mentions that he’s offered Swann the chance of a lifetime to come home and join oVe then tells the crowd to shut up. He calls Swann to the ring and says if they’re really friends he’ll come down and accept the offer to join oVe. Swann’s music hits and the X-Division champion makes his way to the ring. Callihan says this doesn’t have to go on any longer, they’re either going to do this the easy way or the hard way but it’s in his best interest to put on the shirt. Swann throws the shirt back at Callihan, who then starts assaulting Swann with the microphone. Callihan tries for the piledriver but Swann counters with a series of strikes that send Callihan outside then Swann hits a springboard phoenix splash to the outside and lays out Callihan. More offense from Swann but Callihan rakes the eyes then tosses Swann head first into the entrance ramp. Callihan drags Swann to the entrance stage, then hits the piledrive on the stage. He caresses Swann saying that he should have said yes. Callihan shoves a few refs who’ve made their way out and then throws Swann off the entrance stage through a table. Callihan makes his way back to the ring as w cut to another break.

That felt inevitable given how they’d been building the angle but it was well executed.

Bout #3 2019 World Cup: Team AAA (Psycho Clown, Puma King, Aerostar, Vikingo) vs. Team Impact (Sami Callihan, Fallah Bahh, Eli Drake, Eddie Edwards)

Edwards is still in his hardcore gear, much to the consternation of Drake. This is an elimination style match, and all of team Impact bicker around the ring as AAA makes their way down. We’re starting with Psycho Clown and Sami Callihan. They start trading blows in the middle of the ring until Callihan lands a clothesline. Clown avoids a charge and hits a dive from the top rope, they trade some corner offense then Clown hits a snap powerslam for a 2 count. Aerostar tagged in, Clown elevates him for a drop kick to Callihan. Corkscrew cross body from Aerostar as he was whipped into the turn buckles, then he walks the ropes into a Code Breaker move but Callihan quickly stun guns him and tags in Drake. Kicks from Aerostar but Drake catches him after an elevated toss into a modified back body slam for a 2 count. Aerostar avoids a suplex attempt and tags in Vikingo who counters a toss slam into a DDT for a 2 count. Drake tags in Edwards, Vikingo with a spinning hurricanran and sends Edwards out of the ring. Vikingo sets for a drive but Edwards cuts him off with a back elbow. Edwards tries to toss Vikingo out but Vikingo counters and lands a kick then tags in Puma. Kicks from Puma then a delayed vertical suplex for a 2 count. Edwards avoids a rush in the corner then catches Puma as Puma was on the top, then Edwards hits the backpack stunner but has to roll for a tag and gets Bahh in. Puma with a series of kicks but Bahh cuts him off with the power of his presence then hits a belly to belly suplex. Bahh mimes for a roll, then does in fact roll over Puma and Callihan tags himself in with a chop to the chest. Clown in to attack Callihan as Callihan had a submission locked in and we get all eight men in the ring at the same time and this breaks down with team AAA clearing the ring. Drake and Callihan take them out and we’re back to Clown and Callihan in the ring. Callihan with a springboard clothesline he tries to fly but Clown slips around and into the ring then hits a dive onto Callihan and Bahh. Edwards and Puma in the ring, Puma hits a hurricanrana then a springboard cross body onto everyone outside. Aerostar’s turn to dive and he gets serious air on his dive to the outside. Bahh is in the ring now, and he fakes a dive then instead just climbs to the apron and hops onto the pile of bodies. Vikingo in the ring now and he sets for a double springboard into a reverse splash. Impressive, Viking back in the ring looking to climb the ropes but Drake cuts him off and hits a power slam onto the pile. Puma and Drake in the ring, Edwards tries to bring the kendo stick in but Drake cuts that off and tries to use the stick himself but Edwards takes it, that lets Puma hit a series of roll ups into a 3 count to eliminate Drake.

Eli Drake is eliminated, and that will send us to our next break.

Back from break and Callihan is working over Puma. Callihan chops Bahh to tag him in, Bahh isn’t happy about that. Bahh does cut off the tag attempt from Puma, then Bahh slams Callihan onto Puma to take out both of his sources of annoyance. Puma slips off the back of Bahh and lands a super kick then tags in Vikingo. Double drop kick to the Impact members in the corner then a hurricanran to Bahh into the corner. Springboard Code Breaker from Viking takes out Callihan then he winds up taking out Edwards with flying double knees in the corner, but that lets Bahh regain himself. Bahh eats leg kicks and an enziguri but Bahh reverses a whip attempt, Vikingo then slips around the ropes and tries a spinrboard but Bahh catches him and hits the running power slam to get the pinfall.

Viking is eliminated.

Aerostar in now and he bounces off of Bahh with some running kicks but Bahh wont go down and lands a cross body to squish Aerostar. Bahh sets for a Vader Bomb but misses and Aerostar gets a crucifix pin to take him out.

Fallah Bahh is eliminated.

Callihan jumps on Aerostar immediately but takes issue as Edwards tags himself in. Aerostar takes advantage with a rolling cutter to Edwards then he misses a jumping splash and Edwards hits the Boston Knee Party to take out Aerostar.

Aerostar is eliminated.

Puma hangs out in the ropes and kicks Edwards when he charges, Callihan tags himself in and Puma takes him out with a spinning slam but Callihan gets a powerbomb out of the corner. Knee from Callihan then a pile driver to take out Puma.

Puma King is eliminated.

It’s down to Psycho Clown against Eddie Edwards and Sami Callihan. Psycho hypes himself and the crowd on the outside then gets in the ring. Edwards and Callihan wind up squaring off and talking smack to each other. Psycho takes them out with clotheslines but the eventual double team is too much for him. Running leg lariat from Edwards but Callihan pushes him out and gets the cover himself for 2, Callihan tells Edwards he screwed up with that move then Psycho rolls him up.

Sami Callihan is eliminated.

Last two men, Edwards and Psycho go face to face and start trading chops. They wind up trading rights then Edwards slides out of the ring but Psycho just dives onto him and they’re both down outside the ring. Psycho rolls Edwards back into the ring, Edwards gets a Tiger Bomb but only for a 2 count. They clash a few times but Psycho lands a series of kicks then a sliced bread #2 but can only get 2 on the pinfall attempt. Clothesline from Edwards, and another one, you can actually hear someone tell Psycho to stay down so thanks production. Edwards talks with Drake, Drake has the kendo stick and says you don’t need it. They trade roll ups then Drake hits Edwards with the kendo stick, Psycho with the lung blower into the la magistral cradle for the final elimination and win.

OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Team AAA, Psycho Clown last eliminates Eddie Edwards

Team AAA pose with the trophy before we cut to break. Coming back from the break LAX is in the back, Konnan says they lost because Ortiz went and ran his mouth and made them angry. Konnan promises to get a rematch but win lose or draw this will be the last match between the two teams because they’re all his family and he can’t take it anymore.

We get another vignette, this time it’s Dark Allie and Su Yung talking about Rosemary. Some technical glitches and we see Rosemary in the background, then she vanishes before either of them can see her. That’ll lead to another break.

Coming back another Scarlett Bordeaux vignette, this time it’s her hyping her in ring debut at the event that’s currently taping. She promises that Sin City will never be the same.

That will lead us to intros for the main event, which lead to one more commercial break before the match actually starts. That’s some really poor pacing since the last match ended.

Bout #4 Fatal 4-Way for the Impact World Title: (c) Johnny Impact vs. Brian Cage vs. Moose vs. Killer Kross

All four men square off, Cage has the crowd advantage. They trade kicks then Johnny low bridges Moose, kicks Kross and Cage then dives onto Moose. Kross and Cage trade offense and Cage kicks him out of the ring, which sets up a bit flipping dive from Cage onto all three other men and he lands on his feet. Cage tosses Johnny back into the ring and those two square off. Johnny with some kicks and a shining wizard but Moose and Kross double team him. Moose and Kross with a double power bomb but Kross breaks up a cover attempt from Moose and they stare for a moment but seem still on the same page. They set to double team Cage and hit the double power bomb on him, then Moose rolls up Kross for a 2 count. Kross stares daggers at him, Moose appeals to him and they wind up hugging but Kross hits an exploder suplex. Johnny and Kross now, kicks from Johnny into the Moonlight drive then Johnny with a backbreaker into a side Russian leg sweep on Cage then his breakdance leg drop. Moose cuts off that offense with a low blow then he lands running drop kicks to Cage and Kross, he hits a Go To Hell on Johnny but Cage breaks up the pinfall attempt. Cage’s turn to get his stuff in, he kicks Kross in the corner then hits a double German suplex onto Moose who was holding Kross. Cage with a suplex from the apron into the ring from the second rope to Johnny but he only gets a 2 count. Kross avoids a discus clothesline and lands a back drop driver then tries the Kross jacket but Moose breaks it up and everyone trades strikes that ends with a spingboard spear from Johnny to Cage and everyone’s down.

Johnny with a kip up and he looks to climb the corner, but Moose cuts him off and sets for a superplex, Cage in now and we’re setting for a tower of doom spot. Moose and Cage have Johnny, Kross finishes things with the powerbomb to Cage and Moose as they superplex Johnny. Kross covers Johnny but Johnny kicks out and Kross switches to an armbar but Moose then locks in a figure 4 leg lock, Cage grabs a dragon sleeper on Kross. Johnny rolls Moose over to reverse the pressure and Kross hits a northern lights suplex for a 2 count and everyone is down yet again. Kross with offense to Cage in the corner, then he throws Johnny onto Cage and Moose with the big delayed drop kick to Cage. Kross ducks a clothesline from Moose and takes him down with a back drop driver, then picks up Johnny but Johnny escapes and lands a springboard kick for a 2 count. Knee from Johnny to Kross but Moose takes him out with another Go To Hell then Johnny counters with a hurricanran but Moose lands a pop up powerbomb then a senton but Cage breaks up the pin attempt. Moose headbutts Cage and they trade missed discus clotheslines and Cage hits Moose with a Drill Claw/Steiner screw dviver.

Stereo finishers from Johnny and Cage, Johnny with Starship Pain to Moose as Cage hit the Drill Claw to Kross but Johnny pins Moose just before Cage can pin Kross to retain the title.

OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER and STILL Impact World Champion – Johnny Impact via pinfall

Cage gets in Johnny’s face but can’t do anything about the decision as Johnny poses on the ramp with the belt. That’ll end the show.

We get a quick video vignette of all four men from the main event, Kross says he wont let the world be ruled by an impostor or a machine and promises a conversation with Moose. Cage says that Johnny does nothing but screw him over, he had everyone beat and tells Johnny they darn sure aren’t friends. Moose wants nothing to do with the camera. Johnny says he’s worked his career for the title, tells Cage he can have a shot anytime he wants but that he’s still the champion after beating four of the toughest men he’s ever fought.

A pretty good show despite the pacing issues between the World Cup and the main event. Thanks for reading along, and I’ll be back next week for another episode of Impact Wrestling. This Sunday I’ll be covering UFC on ESPN 1 over in the MMA zone so feel free to stop by over there if you’re so inclined, stay safe out there, and keep checking 411mania for all of your pop culture needs.
