KAYFABE!
Timeline The History of the WWE 2001 as told by Lisa Moretti
The format for these DVDs is fairly straightforward. Sean and Ivory sitting in a room, and Ivory gives her take on various happenings during the year 2001 and shares memories and stories. Ivory doesn’t have anything especially groundbreaking to share for the most part, but she makes some good points. We start at the Royal Rumble with The Dudleys winning the WWF Tag Titles from Edge and Christian, and Ivory recalls how much fun D-Von was in the locker room, and contrasts with Bubba just being mean. In her opinion, people are like that due to their own insecurities. A bit later on she talks about Bradshaw being the same way and working overly stiff on a fairly well-known indy wrestler (she doesn’t say who) during a dark match, and recalling Bradshaw being amongst the first in line to kiss Brock’s ass when he first started on the main roster.
Ivory talks a bit about Chyna (with a damn near perfect impression) and how Chyna didn’t seem to be thrilled to be working their program and how she felt she was above the Women’s Title. She’s one of the few who didn’t hate her book (I’m not amongst them by the way), but she thinks Angle’s book sucked. She also talks about Chyna’s mental breakdown when HHH dumped her for Stephanie. There’s also some fun HHH bashing, which I’m down with. Specifically HHH’s tendency to cut borning ten minute promos, she’d start watching and then go vaccum her rugs. He’s not done yet, so she mops her floors. He’s still not done. She jokes that someone should tell the man in charge that HHH isn’t cutting it, but then look who the man in charge is. She also tells a funny story about wrestler’s court with HHH as judge (which she says is a rib itself because UT is supposed to judge), and her bribing him with a gift card to Red Roof Inn, a hotel he’d *never* stay at.
The topic of the XFL comes up and she actually doesn’t bury it. Because Vince was so preoccupied with the XFL he wasn’t all over the wrestlers as much as usual. She likens it to being stuck a lousy marrige and not being able to afford divorce, but then the wife starts banging the gardners and suddenly she’s so much more tolerable to be around. The wrestlers weren’t exactly thrilled with taking a 10% pay cut so Vince could fund and pay the people in the XFL.
Ivory remembers being so excited to finally work WrestleMania because she’d heard about the big pay checks, but she didn’t get one. Sean is nice enough to point out that she only actually worked for about three minutes, so her minutely wage is pretty high. She also wasn’t thrilled that Chyna more or less buried her by barely covering her when she pinned her. Ivory worked at all four of the big PPVs that year, and her combined match time is less than ten minutes. The only of those matches she really enjoyed was the Survivor Series Six-Way match, because it was six women who could wrestle and not ‘bikini girls.” One thing she’s very outspoken about is the WWE Women’s Division turning into the Diva’s Division and how it’s all about modeling and wrestling takes a backseat. She’s also very vocal regarding the double standard of Tough Enough versus the Diva Search. The men despise tough enough because they think it makes what they do look easy when kids on MTV are doing it. But Ivory points out that TE is kids busting their humps and taking bumps just for a WWE developmental contract, while the Diva Search girls don’t have to do anything.
Ivory’s favorite part of her time in the WWE was doing various promotions, such as her and Linda McMahon doing Smack Down Your Vote and her and Road Dogg doing Make A Wish. She tells a cute story about a kid asking for Road Dogg’s autograph and him telling the kid that he’d give him an autograph if the kid gave Dogg his autograph. In contrast to that, she was a bit disappointed in Lita’s attitude at times. She gives her props for working hard to be a wrestler, but when a fan would give her something as a gift, she’d just leave it at the arena that night, forgetting that the fan did it because they’re such a fan of Lita.
The 411: This is a rather entertaining interview. Ivory clearly isn't afraid to speak her mind and goes on a few tangents that are relatively entertaining. |
