Kurt Angle Celebrates 30th Anniversary of His Olympic Gold Medal Triumph

WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle comments on his Olympic gold medal victory from 30 years ago.

It was on July 31, 1996, when Angle defeated Iran’s Abbas Jadidi in freestyle wrestling with a “broken freaking neck” to capture an Olympic gold medal. On the 30th anniversary of his career-defining achievement, the retired pro wrestler took to social media to reflect on the same.

He wrote:

“30 Years Ago Today🏅. It’s hard to believe that it’s been three decades since I stood on that podium, proudly winning the Gold Medal against Abbas Jadidi. Coming from humble I grew up a laborer’s son from Dormont Pittsburgh; I never imagined my dreams would ever come true. This journey has taught me that discipline beats excuses every time. All you need is a dream, and anything is possible. I didn’t just represent my hometown and my college; I proudly wore the colors of the United States of America on my heart, driven by blood, sweat, tears, and even a broken neck.

“Looking back, if I had the chance to do it all over again, my answer would always be a resounding LET’S GO! Here’s to every athlete dreaming big… Never give up, keep pushing, and make your dreams a reality! 🇺🇸💪#Happy30YearsOfGold.”

Kurt Angle would go on to become an all-time great pro wrestler with legendary stints in WWE and TNA Wrestling. The multi-time WWE World Champion wrestled his final match (against Baron Corbin) at WrestleMania 35. He is currently involved with Real American Freestyle as a commentator and partner.
