Lil Yachty says that CM Punk was his favorite wrestler as a kid and it helped him stay sober as he was growing up. The rapper and WWE celebrity is associated with Trick Williams, but he said in his interview on Insight With Chris Van Vliet that he grew up a Punk fan and was influenced by Punk’s straight edge lifestyle.
Yachty was also asked about Eminem name dropping him in the latter’s track “Ringer.” The song features the line, “I can see why people like Lil Yachty, but not me though / Not even dissin’, it just ain’t for me / All I am simply is just an MC.” Yachty said that he didn’t take any offense and was “so grateful” for the name drop. You can see the highlights below:
On His Favorite Wrestler Growing Up:
“CM Punk. In high school, I used to draw the X’s on my hand, and I was going to tattoo them, and I just never did it. But I got so many pictures for me with these 2 X’s on my hand, and I was sober because of CM Punk for a long time until I became an adult. I didn’t do any drugs in high school. I didn’t drink. I didn’t do drugs. I was sober. You couldn’t influence me to do anything because of CM Punk. Punk was sober. I was sober. Punk is still sober, but man, he was my guy. Love Jeff Hardy, obviously. I loved Shad and JTG. I loved Cryme Tyme.”
On Eminem’s Line About Him In “The Ringer”:
“[I found out about it] the second it came out. I wouldn’t call that a beef, cause I honestly was so grateful. He could have used anyone, but he said my name, and I really thought that was dope. I got love for Eminem. If I saw Eminem, I’d be like, ‘Thank you.’”
