Matt Cardona Hopes To Be Back From Injury In Time For WWE Royal Rumble

Matt Cardona has set his goal to return from injury sooner than expected, perhaps at the Royal Rumble next year. As noted, the WWE star suffered a torn tricep diuring a match taped for WWE Main Event in late August, and underwent surgery soon after. Cardona suffered the injury shortly after he had a match with Gunther on WWE Smackdown after standing up for Chelsea Green, who Gunther was mocking during an in-ring segment.
Cardona recently appeared on Casuals with Katie Nolan for a conversation, and he spoke about his injury status and potential return.
“The plan is to be back shorter than the surgeons say,” Cardona said (courtesy of Wrestling Inc). “Maybe come back to the Royal Rumble. Who knows? That’s February this year. So, I got some time.”
The WWE Royal Rumble, as Cardona mentioned, is scheduled for February. WWE has yet to confirm an exact date for the PLE, which will take place at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
