AEW X NJPW Forbidden Door has been announced for San Jose, but it was originally planned for another location according to a new report. AEW and NJPW announced on Wednesday that the crossover PPV will take place on June 28th at the SAP Center in San Jose, California. However, Bodyslam+ reports that AEW initially wanted the show to take place elsewhere.

According to the report, sources indicated that AEW originally wanted to hold the show in Chicago. However, NJPW is holding the opening night of the G1 Climax 36 in Hoffman Estates, Illinois (a Chicago suburb) and felt that Forbidden Door would be too close to that in terms of the date.

Another source said that AEW time the announcement for today because WWE held an event at the SAP Center recently. Specifically, last week’s episode of WWE Smackdown took place at the venue.

AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door will again feature crossover between AEW, NJPW, CMLL, and STARDOM. No matches have yet been announced for the show. Before then, AEW still has Double Or Nothing 2026 which takes place on on May 24th from Louis Armstrong Stadium in Queens, New York.
