Jacob Fatu may have failed to dethrone Roman Reigns as World Heavyweight Champion at WWE Backlash 2026, but he certainly delivered a stunning statement at the expense of The Tribal Chief.

Throughout the match, The Samoan Werewolf tried to choke out Roman with the Tongan Death Grip. However, Roman kept finding a way to escape. Reigns emptied his arsenal to get the better of Fatu, but the latter refused to die.

After Powerbombing Roman through the commentary table, Jacob once again tried to choke out Reigns, but the champion attacked Fatu’s eyes, and in the process, the referee got squashed in the corner. Roman hit Fatu with several Superman Punches and followed it up with a Spear, but the challenger again kicked out.

Fatu again locked in the Tongan Death Grip, but Roman grabbed the referee and then ripped off one of the top turnbuckles. Roman smashed Fatu’s head into the exposed turnbuckle and followed it up with a Spear to secure the pinfall and retain the championship.

After the match, an understandably incensed Fatu attacked Roman with the Tongan Death Grip. The referee tried to get in the way and was taken out via a pop-up Samoan Drop. Fatu continued to choke out Roman even as officials, including RAW Adam Pearce, tried to stop him. He initially left the ring before storming back to again choke out Reigns and stand tall with the World Heavyweight Championship firmly in his grasp.
