Update On Toni Storm’s Status Following Absence From AEW Dynamite

It’s bad luck for Toni Storm that, following her recent victory over Marina Shafir and a Ronda Rousey appearance that got everybody talking, the Timeless One seems to have gotten hurt. Following heavy promotion for her rematch with Shafir, she didn’t make the match and was replaced by her partner, Mina Shirakawa, who scored the win.

Via Wrestling Observer Radio (h/t Wrestling Inc.), Bryan Alvarez reported that Storm has a legit injury.

“All I know is that this was a legitimate replacement, meaning something actually happened to Toni,” said Alvarez. “it wasn’t until 10 minutes before the show that, I guess that, maybe the doctor, like–they were waiting and waiting and hoping and then at the last second they were, like, ‘Not going to happen.'”

Any speculation on how serious the injury is is just that: speculation. Alvarez suggests that if it were a minor injury, it would have made more sense for Shafir to win so the feud can continue later; ending it now suggests that Storm’s absence might be open-ended. Rousey’s appearance seems to be a one-off thus far; with her MMA fight against Gina Carano looming, she can’t risk getting hurt in a wrestling ring beforehand.
