– Wrestling veteran Jeanne Basone, who worked in the original Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling (GLOW), has released her own memoir, ORIGIN. Here’s an official description:
1980s icon Jeanne “Hollywood” Basone opens up for the first time on her rollercoaster ride…in her memoir Hooray For Hollywood! She is the first, longest-running, and arguably most popular character on the hit syndicated television show Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling (GLOW) – directed by Matt Cimber, ex-husband of Jayne Mansfield – which aired in 100 major markets in the U.S. and was broadcast around the world in the 80s. It has been said that GLOW brought the glitz and glamour of Vegas to professional wrestling and TV.
So how did an unknown, skinny girl from the suburbs with no contacts or experience go on to become one of the first internationally famous female wrestlers, shattering the glass ceiling for an entire generation, and starting her own successful production company? By kicking ass. Literally and figuratively. She tells it all in
Hooray for Hollywood! and shares behind-the-scenes scoops, personal anecdotes, and the real story of GLOW.
She includes perspectives from fans, friends, GLOW girls, Rock n’ Rollers, award winning producers, directors and photographers. She talks about ignoring KISS superstar Gene Simmons at LA’s FM Station Rock Club, meeting and befriending Billy Corgan (The Smashing Pumpkins frontman) at the CAC wrestling convention in Las Vegas, attending parties at The Playboy Mansion and having Hugh Hefner sign her Playboy magazine at LA’s Glamour Con.
Jeanne is a media darling and pro, having been featured in The Hollywood Reporter, The New York Post, Washington Post, Huffington Post, LA Weekly, Vanity Fair, and People Magazine. She has been featured in books on the history of wrestling, such as Sisterhood of the Squared Circle, graced the cover of magazines, was named a “lethal woman” by Playboy. She appeared in numerous television series and films as an actress and stuntwoman, including Holland Michigan starring Nicole Kidman, Married… with Children, J.A.G., Days of Our Lives, Chuck, and Saved by the Bell.
Jeanne travels around the world for appearances, meeting thousands of fans at conventions such as LA Comic Con, SanDiego Comic Con, Wrestlecon, The Big Event NYC, PAX East, and PAX West. Her inspirational memoir is not just a chronicle of her life in wrestling; it’s a deep dive into her personal growth, the evolution of women;s roles in sports and entertainment, and the relentless pursuit of her dreams.
