News to Start Your Weekend 7.13.07
Before I start off and get into things as normal, I want to quickly address how the media has been handing the events of last month. In short… no different than they go about covering anything; without doing proper research and being more of an entertainment show than news shows like they’re “supposed” to be. But because they get to call themselves the news and they get to hide behind that, they get to act like they’re the moral compass and like everything they say is gospel. And it’s sickening. What Ken Kennedy wrote in a recent message on his website basically echoes the sentiments I’ve had for this whole situation, especially that fucking idiot Nancy Grace. She has a history of making ridiculous statements that turn out to be wrong and for being nothing but an insensitive, self-righteous bitch, basically. Her comment that sleep apnea is basically a little heavy snoring and a couple seconds of not being able to breathe and brushing it off as something that couldn’t possibly be a deadly condition was especially hysterical. She’s a joke, just like most of the rest of the “news media”.
and now to the wrestling news
– Duane Gill, still masquerading as Gillberg and refusing to acknowledge that he is the head coach of the Chargers, has resurfaced in the form of the WWE Alumni section of the dot com. They added somebody else last week too, but I can’t remember who it was. As long as they never put that fat shit Mark Madden in there, I’ll be happy with anyone.
– The Rock is going to present an award at the ESPYs again this year. Every year I remember that the ESPYs exist for about 3 days before it happens and then forget it before it actually takes place, only to remember again for a couple days an entire year later. It’s a good system I got going.
– AAA’s big TripleMania XV show will now feature Sabu. That show is this Sunday, by the way. Other people on the card that you may know: Super Porky, Juvy Guerrera, Kenzo Suzuki (in the MAIN EVENT), X-Pac (with his new fiancé Alicia Webb, aka Ryan Shamrock aka the whore the ‘Stro used to hang around with), and Ron Killings. There’s also Scorpio Jr, who I think (and very much hope) is a mini 2 Cold Scorpio. If so, I have a new favourite wrestler.
– Heh… remember that time Ryan Shamrock was supposed to slap Ken but didn’t remember to, so Ken had to tell her (very audibly) “slap me”? That was awesome.
– Speaking of wrestling in Mexico, WWC is having their big 34th anniversary show tonight. There are a lot of big North American stars on there. Check here for the full card.
– Teddy Hart’s move to Florida got him his wish, as he has been signed to a WWE developmental deal. Whoopie!
– Steiner is getting much better, and he may be able to return (probably not to active wrestling competition) on this Monday’s Impact tapings.
– In this week’s sad news, the proposed Iron Sheik talk show on RAW has been declined. That’s a shame. I wouldn’t be surprised if TNA picked it up, though. Put him in there with the Paparazzi Productions guys. That could rule. Hard.
– WWE canceled a bunch of shows in Canada for this weekend. They were scheduled to do shows from Saturday thru Tuesday out west, but they are gone now due to a scheduling conflict. That does make sense, since TV this week is scheduled to be in Texas.
– WWE has challenged the VKM trademark, and Harmon Electronics are challenging WWE’s ‘JBL’ trademark. Yeah. Alright then. Have fun.
– ‘Smackdown’ is now officially a word. I guess you lose one, you gain one.
– I hope somebody got that joke.
– If you didn’t, maybe you will if I tell a joke that the wonderful prophet Steve from Bay Shore made. Well, let’s just say that after the funeral for it, the word will be what proves that there is, in fact, life after death.
– WWE signed former TNA guy ‘Sinn’ to a developmental contract. The old New Church music was awesome. We used to love playing it on my old college radio show ‘Dena Schumacher presents Kip-Up Radio’.
– Ric Flair is going deaf.
– Is it too early to make Benoit jokes? The Arab station that airs RAW aired his tribute show recently, and their announcers praised him. I guess the joke kind of makes itself.
– Man, WWE fired Chris Kay. He was a pretty good referee. I think. He’s a referee. The only really good one is ‘Lil Naitch. Because he rules. Flair still makes him hold the ropes open for him, too. Too bad Flair won’t be able to hear him soon.
– Apparently Mysterio was supposed to be in the main event of the GAB against Edge, but he isn’t ready yet. Instead, Vince is going to let Kane chase the title for a couple months. I hope Vince is still high on Matt Hardy.
– Joe Vitale, an avid SHIMMER fan and a listener of my awesome radio show ( RocketBusta Radio, by the way ) made a funny joke that I had to relay:
I had TNA on mute and I see the tv with the 1-800-QUIT-NOW and they’re showing Ron Killings and the first thought that went into my head was “Wow, are they actually advertising him quitting and having a number to let other TNA stars quit TNA?”
Tee hee.
ring of honor news~!
– Respect is Earned is now available on TVN as of last weekend, and a week from tonight, it will finally debut on iNDemand and be available on all major PPV outlets except DirecTV.
– YAMATO got hurt, so BXB Hulk was going to replace him in the tag title match with SHINGO against the Briscoes, but then BXB Hulk got hurt. He will now be replaced by Susumu Yokosuka.
– Some of the ‘Race to the Top’ tournament has been revealed for July 27 in Long Island:
Matt Cross v. Brent Albright
Jack Evans v. Kevin Steen
Erick Stevens v. Chris Hero
Delirious v. El Generico
– The August 24 Hartford show will be titled (or will feature) “Caged Rage”. Very cryptic.

– Jack Evans v. Roderick Strong
– Bryan Danielson v. Jimmy Rave
– Nigel McGuinness v. BJ Whitmer
– Check out Ari Berenstein’s Column of Honor tomorrow as well as the upcoming roundtable preview for the two shows coming soon here on 411.
tv thoughts and whatnot
– RAW continues to be decent, but it seemed like a bit of a step down this week. I did like the video packages for Cena and Lashley, though. It’s reminiscent of the build to Brock v. Rock at SummerSlam 2002.
– When the Santino/Umaga match went a little longer than the others, I actually expected that they might actually got for giving Santino a chance in the vein of the Sabin/Joe match from the summer of 2005. Oh well. I seem to be one of the few who like Santino. I guess people would rather continue holding out hope that Orton finally breaks out and stops being mediocre instead of getting behind another fairly young new guy who the fans would definitely get behind as well if given a chance. He’s a pretty good wrestler, too. At least he might not still “have some potential” 5 years into his run with the company if he’s actually given a chance.
– Yeah, I went after Orton. I hope I don’t get some female Orton fan coming at me about my opinion on him like I did last week for my little Batista bashing. I guess I’m not allowed to be critical of anybody who might have some fans.
– Which means, of course, that at least I can still make fun of Mark Madden.
– 2 Madden disses in on column? I’m fucking on a roll here!
– Hey, the Highlanders still exist.
– Dusty Rhodes owned Orton on the mic on Monday. I bet he Orton and Cody went against one another in promos, Cody would own him too.
– Hey, Beth Phoenix is back. Nice cape.
– Big Daddy V rules.
– They did an article on the dot com where Nitro and Punk basically cut promos on one another via text. They couldn’t have done that on ECW on Sci-Fi? Why not? I mean, I guess the champion stoically watching his upcoming challenger on a monitor backstage is more compelling than two guys cutting promos on one another, but the promos still would have been nice.
– Punk v. Stevie Richards is always the highlight of ECW. This past Tuesday was their fifth match against one another on ECW TV. Awesomeness. Plus, Stevie pulled out the friggin’ Koji Clutch!
– Miz v. Nunzio was going well until Miz decided to stop running all over the ring and do a 73 minute chinlock instead.
– Nitro v. Dreamer was going along quite smoothly until the very abrupt ending. It’s a shame such a decent match had to have such a poor finish. It’s also a shame that they’ve been building a Nitro/Dreamer feud better than the Punk/Nitro feud that is supposed to be their title match for next weekend’s PPV.
– Impact was disappointing, but Christy Hemme is still un-fucking-believable. Hottest chick in wrestling right now. I hate stupid Lance Hoyt and his awful lower back tattoo.
the big finish
Read all sorts of columns from this site. They’re good. I know. I read some of them. Oh, and listen to RocketBusta Radio, which is live every Saturday night. RocketBusta Radio dot com is how you get there. You can also download the podcast every week. It goes up on Sundays. Or you can subscribe on most podcast places except for iTunes. We’re working on that one. Go to the site and figure it out. Also go to Team Game Online dot com for all of the wonderful goings on at TGO.
